New Manchester’s football team is coming off an eight-win season that marked the most wins in the school’s 15-year history.

Head Coach Olten Downs is in his third year leading the Jaguars and has seven returning starters on defense and six on offense.

Downs said this is the biggest and strongest team he’s had. After making the state playoffs a year ago, he said New Manchester is focused on taking it to the next level.

“We're looking to get over the hump right now,” Downs said at the recent DCSS Fall Athletic Media Day at Legacy Arena. “And the biggest thing is we need our seniors and our really good football players to become great leaders on the football field and in the building and help us take that next step to where we want to become region champions.”

Downs highlighted six key players:

  • QB Delancy Alexander (FIU commit)

  • DB Allen Jones

  • LB Morris Swims

  • DE/TE Colin Bussey

  • WR Jakobe DeJesus (Liberty commit)

  • OT Donald Akhibi

The Jaguars won their opener over Washington, 59-7. They host Stone Mountain on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
