Students at Stewart Middle School recently got hands-on experience exploring circuits and conductors. Felicia Pope’s eighth-grade science class had an electrifying day building open and closed circuits while testing the best insulators and conductors of electricity—an activity designed to help students understand conductivity and insulation.
“Students were assigned projects to complete with the circuits, finding different arrangements that led to creative, colorful designs that sparked curiosity and bright ideas,” said Pope.
Each student’s outcome was unique, with some producing electricity to power sound, flashing lights, or even small bursts of wind.
Overall, the activity helped students build knowledge of open and closed circuits, along with the characteristics of strong insulators and conductors. Students were also able to model how electron charges move to complete a circuit.
Pope expressed excitement about the activity and the valuable learning it provided.
“The students were so impressed and proud of themselves for the creative work they were able to produce,” she said. “Hands-on learning never looked so vibrant. Keep soaring Eagles.”
