For Arbor Station flag football coach Matthew Brooks, sports are not just about athletic competitionAn ASES player tries to avoid getting his flag pulled by a NMES player in pusuit.—they’re about bringing the entire community together, from administrators cooking hot dogs to staff showing support, to students talking all day in school about the games.

Brooks and his Arbor Station Bears got to experience all of that and the sweet taste of victory at the 10th annual Turkey Bowl.

Avery Day, Chase Thompson and King Muhammed all scored touchdowns as Arbor Station won 20-18 over New Manchester Elementary to claim the elementary school flag football championship on Nov. 13 at Douglas County High School.

“This league has been a great motivator for our students to not only get better at football, but help academically and with sportsmanship and behavior as well,” Brooks said. “We had four players who had never played the game before and at the end of the championship one girl told me, ‘coach this was so much fun and I want to do this in high school and college!’”
