New Douglas County High School boys' basketball coach Keith Simmons says he will have a
“revamped, scrappy squad” that is eager to prove itself this season.
“What we will be missing in senior leadership, we will make up with new energy, expectations, and a point to prove,” he said.
Simmons listed two key returning players from last year: junior guards Noah Jones and JD Dent.
Jones can play both guard positions and is a three-level scorer.
“Noah will be asked to be more of a leader,” Simmons said. “His IQ and playmaking ability will be key to our success.”
He said Dent “can be a do-everything guard on both ends” and has the athleticism and driving ability that allow him to be a threat to score and get his teammates involved.
Key newcomers include junior wing/forward Demarcus Williams and Kemarii Reed.
Simmons said Williams can play multiple positions well, brings a “voice and steadiness” the team needed, and can score and guard inside out, “which makes him a stat stuffer in multiple categories.”
Reed has the potential to play all five positions, Simmons said, and is a “walking highlight!”
“He will bring some of his multi-sport physicality to the court and can be a matchup problem for the opponents,” he said. “He has the potential to be the x-factor.”
