Everyone knows Santa Claus relies on Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer to guide him on his sleigh. But when the man in the big red suit visited Lenox Square on Dec. 9, he had some special guests from Douglas County High School leading him through the Atlanta mall.
The Incomparable Marching Tiger Band was selected by Macy’s to lead Santa into and through Lenox Square during the 2025 Macy’s Santa Tour.
“Recognized for our musical excellence at performances, competitive presence, and entertainment value, the Marching Tiger Band has become a sought-after group by corporate entities,” said Torre Goodson, Director of Bands at DCHS. “Macy's representatives reached out to us before the Thanksgiving Break to perform for Santa in the high-energy way that only the Incomparable Marching Tigers can.”
The recognition for the Incomparable Marching Tigers comes on the heels of a series of successes, including winning $15,000 in the Great Atlanta Band Challenge in the fall.
The band has had a stellar competitive marching season, bringing home first-place trophies from the Ring of Fire competition in Sonoraville and being awarded ‘Most Entertaining Band’ as part of a third-place finish in the Super Bowl of Sound at Central-Carroll High School.
The band has also performed in the Douglasville Christmas Parade, and the Blue Steel Drumline is poised to compete in several competitions during the spring semester.
“Creating performance opportunities for our student musicians is always a great thing,” Goodson said. “Corporate performances and performances outside of the county continue to shape our students' life experiences and expose them to the fact that fine arts opportunities exist within every sector of professional life. It's a tremendous honor for our students, Douglas County High School, and the Douglas County community at large.”
