Alexander High School multisport standout Kennedy Cantrell has been blazing trails in baseball.
The sophomore recently participated in the 2025 Girls Baseball Breakthrough Series, a premier event organized through a collaboration between USA Baseball and Major League Baseball.
Cantrell is one of just 32 high school-aged female athletes from the U.S. and Canada selected to participate in the four-day camp in early November at the Jackie Robinson Training Complex in Vero Beach, Florida.
Cantrell received elite instruction from U.S. Women's National Baseball Team staff, former Major
League Baseball players and strength and conditioning experts.
Three girls and one coach at the event were drafted to the new professional women’s baseball league on Nov. 20, underscoring the elite level of competition.
Cantrell made history during her time at Fairplay Middle School as the first girl to play for the school’s baseball team and the first girl to earn All-Conference honors in baseball.
“The Breakthrough Series reminded me why I started: because I love this game,” she said. “Seeing other girls chasing the same dream made my own journey feel bigger than just me.”
In addition to her success in baseball, Cantrell plays quarterback and cornerback for Alexander’s flag football team. As a freshman, she played on the Alexander softball team, earning Second Team All-Region honors, and the junior varsity baseball team.
