The Georgia Library Media Association (GLMA) has named Elizabeth Shadix, media specialist at Bright Star Elementary School, the 2026 West Georgia Region Library Media Specialist of the Year.
Shadix, who was named the districtwide Media Specialist of the Year in March, emerged as the top candidate from a competitive pool of educators across the West Georgia region. She is now one of only 10 finalists from across the state advancing to the competition's final stage.
This elite group represents the "best of the best" in Georgia’s school libraries, highlighting educators who go above and beyond to foster a love of reading and critical thinking.
Shadix has served Douglas County for 22 years, spending the last four transforming the Bright Star media center into a vibrant hub of innovation. The entire Douglas County community will be rooting for her as she represents the West Georgia Region this June.
“The district is incredibly proud of Ms. Shadix for this regional honor,” said Dr. K’Asha Davis, Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning. “Her passion and commitment to providing a welcoming, resource-rich environment has made the media center the heart of her school community. She recognizes that the media center is the school's largest classroom and leverages her influence to inspire a lifelong love of learning.”
The winner of the Georgia Library Media Specialist of the Year award will be officially announced on June 8, 2026, during the GLMA Summer Institute Awards Ceremony.
