The hallways of Lithia Springs Elementary School were recently buzzing with excitement as students geared up for the Georgia Milestones Assessment System (GMAS).
In preparation for the big day, the "Home of the Lion Cubs" held its annual GMAS Pep Rally, designed to swap testing anxiety for school spirit.
The Lithia Lion Club mascot pumped up the crowd as the Turner Middle School Band led the way, marching into the gymnasium. Adding to the excitement, the LSES chorus took center stage, putting their inspirational sounds on display.
While the third-, fourth- and fifth-grade students filled the gym, kindergarten through second grade students experienced the rally via live-streamed in their classrooms. Playing a vital role in the morning’s festivities, the younger “Cubs” paraded through the upper-grade hallways with homemade banners, cheering on their older peers in a colorful display of school-wide solidarity.
A successful PTA fundraiser led to one of the morning’s highlights: Assistant Principal Felicia Hall being taped to a chair and showered in a neon blizzard of silly string.
"Seeing the kids this excited about coming to school during testing season is exactly why we do this," said one PTA volunteer. "If taping a leader to a chair helps them feel confident and relaxed for the GMAS, it’s worth every roll of tape," she added.
In a heartfelt pep talk, Principal Tonia Small reminded the Lion Cubs that while the GMAS is a chance to show what they know, it does not define their worth.
"You have worked hard, you have grown, and you are ready," said Principal Small. "When you start your GMAS tests next week, remember this energy. Remember that your entire school family is behind you. Take a deep breath, do your best, and let your Lion pride shine."
