After studying U.S. History throughout the semester and completing the Georgia Milestones
assessments, U.S. History students from Douglas County High School had the opportunity to experience history firsthand through two field trips.
Students toured the Jimmy Carter Presidential Museum, where they learned about the life, presidency, and humanitarian efforts of President Jimmy Carter.
Students also had the chance to explore the Freedom Truck, a mobile museum that hosts exhibits and interactives focused on the Revolutionary War and important people throughout American history.
They also explored the Civil Rights Movement at the Center for Civil and Human Rights.
Students engaged with history by participating in sit-in counter simulations that placed them in the shoes of civil rights leaders.
In addition, they learned about current human rights issues impacting communities around the world and discovered how they can become change agents in society today.
